Super Skater

Congrats to Scott on his first inline MARATHON (26.2 miles!!) I am super impressed because his training consisted of putting on his 1992 rollerblades a total of 2...yes 2...times to go about 3 miles each time before embarking on his marathon. (Did I also mention that he has not put on these rollerblades since about 1992) .The super skater even thought to replace his wheels with brand new ones...the day before the race. When his brilliant wife asked him if maybe he should test out his new wheels before the marathon his response was..." I did. I wheeled around the sidewalk a little bit."  Needless to say if you look closely at this photo, there are only 2 wheels left...2 had fallen off at mile 3 and mile 5. What a man!

Glad to be back on MN soil

And this is how we left Canada....did I mention we were harassed at entry by the border patrol, had to go without firewood for the first night because the station closed at 2 pm (even though we got there at 3), the next day had to pay 6$ for 6 pieces of wood and 3.99 for a 5 pound bag of ice for our coolers (mind you, you can buy an 8 lb bag of ice at holiday in mn for $1.49), our credit cards didn't work at the most ghetto gas station and our one dinner out for pizza cost us 50$ and it was like eating at Pizza Hut. Okay, so besides that we made the best of it. But we did decide to go back over the border a few days earlier than expected and tented on the Gunflint trail.
Can't beat smore time. I have figured out though, that the kids would prefer to eat raw marshmallows with a piece of cold hershey bar vs the real thing. But me, nah, I should be at smore anonymous.
Our last piece of scenery before leaving Canada.
Finally out of the car and stretching our legs near Lake Superior in Grand Marais.
Even stopped for kite flying lesson. Ethan was totally engrossed in it until Scott smacked him in the face with kite. Ah, Scott was a little on the rusty side.
Practicing her cheerleading moves.
Palisade Head, just an hour or so north of Duluth. After this, one last pitstop at Betty's Pies and we found ourselves pulling onto Wood Road. The weather was absolutely perfect and my company was pretty good too. But I would probably have to say that I think northern Mn has a lot more scenic beauty to offer than the few stops in Canada we made. Might have to check out eastern or western canada next time.

Oh Canada!

Our family of 4.5 headed north to the neighboring country of Canada for an after labor day camping excursion. This photo was taken after I figured out preggo momma is too fatigued to lug Addie in her back pack hiking through the woods. I think I lasted 40 feet before I thought I needed an oxygen mask. So low and behold we had to talk Ethan into being the hiking "leader" and all our hikes to follow were short but we ALL made it!
I am not one to be scared of heights EVER in my life, but for some reason this outlook where you could see through the posts made me want to hurl. Ethan and Scott were brave and endured the photo session. Addison....well let's just say she is a girl like her momma.
No MN state park or service for that matter, but it was THE best campsite we have ever had...see below for pics right on the lake
